Millworks Member Spotlight: Pam of Ten West Photography

Millworks Creative is a thriving and vibrant community of creatives, photographers, artists and entrepreneurs alike! When we first opened our doors, it was important that we make a beautiful and inspiring space where our members could dream, create, work and connect that wasn’t like any ordinary coworking space in Hamilton.

From our incredible studio spaces, our spacious art stalls and our shared coworking space, our goal to create a sense of community has always been at the forefront. Our Creative Coworking members are part of what makes Millworks such a unique and exciting place.

We’re excited to share a new blog series that will feature our incredible members and their work. For our first Millworks Member Spotlight, we’d like to introduce you to Pam, owner of Ten West Photography!

Pam is a photographer who specializes in capturing captivating portraits for professionals, individuals and brands and is often found working around the various studios at Millworks - she has an office in our space!

We asked Pam to tell us more about herself and share her experience being part of the Millworks Creative community. Read on to learn more!

Q: First, tell us about yourself (and your work)!

A: I take way too many selfies with the littles. I love chai latte and late nights. I used to be a morning person, and maybe someday I will be one of those again. I’m a former world traveller, and a not-that-long-ago high school teacher. I’ve taken photos for as long as I can remember, and it’s always been my dream to make this my career. I’m inspired by people who chase their dreams and love telling their stories through my lens.

Q: Prior to becoming a member at Millworks, what did your work routine look like? How has that evolved since joining our Creative Coworking Membership?

A: Before becoming a member at Millworks, I had another studio office space in a commercial building where I worked alone. It was my first step into having a dedicated creative workspace out of the house, which I loved, but it was also somewhat isolating. Since joining the Creative CoWorking Membership at Millworks, my days are much more social and my network has definitely grown.

Q: What do you love about being a member of the Millworks Creative community?

A: I truly love the community part of the Millworks Creative community! Being surrounded by other creatives, entrepreneurs and individuals who are pursuing their passions is incredibly inspiring. I love the energy that you feel when you walk into the building. I have met so many amazing people who have become friends. AND the studio space?! It’s incredible. It was for sure the thing that initially drew me here.

Q: What would you tell other photographers or creatives who are considering joining Millworks for Creative Coworking/Studio Memberships?

A: What are you waiting for?! There are so many benefits to being a member; from the use of studios to the amazing relationships within the community - there is space for everyone!

Q: Which Millworks studio is your favourite and why?

This is a tricky one! I am torn between the Annex and the Loft. I love the versatility and the light in the Annex - there is SO much you can do in the space for so many different types of shoots. But there is this one corner of the Loft that is my fave for a classic headshot or portrait - everyone looks amazing there.

Q: Can you share a few images from one of your favourite photoshoots done at Millworks and tell us about how you conceptualized the shoot to bring your client's goals to life?

A: Another difficult question - I feel like I have so many favourite shoots done at Millworks it is hard to choose just one! A definite highlight of 2021 was shooting Olympian Sarah Nurse in the Annex. The vision for the shoot was to show Sarah’s love of fashion AND hockey and how she can express herself anyway she chooses, being comfortable being herself. I was sure to include her Olympic medal (she now has TWO), and pose her to reflect both her style and confidence.
